Can I Use My Dental Insurance?

Yes, we accept most private dental insurance plans as a form of payment. Specifically, we accept all Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) insurances.
We'll need to check your specific plan to see whether it provides benefits you can use at our office.
If your insurance doesn't cover the full cost of your care, you'll be responsible for the difference. We'll explain what you can expect to pay before treatment, so you can make an informed decision.

What Will I Pay for My Visit?

Final cost depends on the care you receive and what your insurance pays.

For plans we accept, our usual arrangement is that you pay your estimated portion at your appointment. We submit the insurance claim, and the insurance company normally sends its payment to Dental Haven.
Once the claim is processed, we review the payment and let you know if anything needs to be adjusted.

  • Before your visit

Fill any pending forms and send us your insurance information so we can check whether your plan can be used here and prepare an estimate when possible.

  • At your appointment

The office will collect the estimated portion for the care provided.

  • After insurance responds

We review the payment. You may receive a refund or have a remaining balance, depending on what your plan pays.

Insurance estimates are not guarantees. Your final cost depends on the services performed and the payment your insurance company makes.

What Do I Need to Do Before My Visit?

Start by telling us what brings you in — whether you're looking for routine care, have a dental concern, or need help with a specific problem. We'll help you find the appropriate appointment. If you have dental insurance, we'll ask you to send a picture of both sides of your insurance card so our team can check your plan before your visit when possible.

Insurance Can Help Pay for Care.It Doesn’t Decide What Care You Need.

Dental insurance can be valuable, and we want you to use the benefits available to you. But what your plan pays for and what may be appropriate for your dental health are not always the same.
Your insurance company decides how much it will pay based on your plan’s rules and limits. A service may be covered in part — or not covered at all. We’ll explain our recommendations, discuss reasonable options, and review the expected cost before you decide how to proceed.
The two different questions we want you to feel comfortable asking are:
“What are my options for taking care of my dental health?”
and
“How much will my insurance contribute toward it?”
Both questions matter. We’re here to help you understand the answers. Learn more about how insurance works or the cost of dental care in RI with the links below:

Common Questions About Dental Insurance.

Clear explanations for all the common questions and concerns you might have.

  • Dental Haven is not contracted as an in-network provider. All that means is that the cost of providing a sustainable, high-quality service is determined independently of insurance benefits. Most private dental plans still provide benefits that can be used here, which may help make quality dental care accessible. We'll check your specific plan details after receiving a copy of your insurance information.

  • We can provide a conservative estimate when we have enough information, but we can't guarantee the amount. Your insurance company determines its final payment only after it processes the claim.

  • For plans we accept, our current arrangement is for you to pay your estimated portion and for insurance to pay Dental Haven directly. We will explain if your particular plan needs to be handled differently.

  • Our estimates are conservative, based on past insurance payments, so a small refund is more likely than an additional bill. For larger procedures, we may request a pre-authorization from your insurance to get better estimates. Once your claim is processed, we’ll review the payment and let you know of any remaining balance — or refund any overpayment.

  • Denials can happen regardless of where you go. Plans have limitations, and insurers will never guarantee payment until after a claim is processed. The good news is that denials for preventive care are uncommon, and we use tools like pre-authorizations to help reduce the risk on larger procedures. You’re responsible for any balance insurance doesn’t pay, but if a denial does occurs, we’ll call you and explore options like financing.

  • You can still choose to receive care here. We'll explain the applicable fees and any available options, such as our current new-patient special, membership plans, or financing.

  • Yes. The current special is available to new patients with or without insurance. If your insurance pays toward the included services, your final cost may be lower.
